Puerto Rico: Success for the third edition of the ‘5K’ race

The third edition of the ‘5K’ race, organised by students on the UPRM/FIFA/CIES International Programme in Sports Management, was once again a resounding success on Sunday 12 July in Mayagüez.

More than 120 participants of all ages took part in this event, organised as part of the sports event management module of the FIFA/CIES International Programme in Sports Management. For the 2026 edition, the route wound its way across the vast campus of the University of Puerto Rico – Mayagüez, having followed a route through the ruins of Aguilla the previous year.

The competition enabled students to put into practice the knowledge they had acquired in the classroom in areas as varied as planning, logistics, communication, marketing, safety, and the legal and financial aspects of such an event. They finalised the last organisational details on the Saturday before the race, before getting up very early the following day to ensure participants were welcomed in the best possible conditions.

We congratulate the organisers and the team at the FIFA/CIES International Programme in Puerto Rico on their successful efforts and look forward to welcoming running enthusiasts to the fourth edition of the ‘5K’ in 2027.
