Margherita Rean - Ausseil
Current Position: International Events Activation Consultant for the FIFA Museum
Year of Graduation: 2002 (2nd Edition)
Nationality: Italian
What does your current role involve?
In my current role at the FIFA Museum, I support the organization in expanding its international presence by conceiving and implementing events outside of Zurich, helping to bring the museum’s vision to a global audience. My work spans a wide range of event types, two of which highlight this diversity particularly well.
The first was the celebration of FIFA’s 120th anniversary, held on 21st May 2024 at the Élysée Palace in Paris. This official ceremony, attended by President Emmanuel Macron and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, was a landmark moment. During the event, a remembrance document was signed by representatives of the seven founding members of FIFA—a historic artifact that is now part of the FIFA Museum collection.
In contrast, our participation at the Miami Book Fair showcased the museum in a completely different context. This public event allowed us to connect with a broad audience through a curated display of memorabilia and historical objects, including a replica of the Jules Rimet Cup. The chance for visitors to see the very first World Cup trophy replica up close sparked genuine excitement. We also organized educational activities for children, creating a playful and meaningful introduction to football history—an experience that was both inspiring and rewarding.
How has the FIFA Master helped you in your career?
The FIFA Master truly changed the course of my life. Coming from an academic background in Art History at the University of Torino and some initial experience working with Juventus FC, the programme gave me the opportunity to broaden my horizons and significantly expand my professional network. Thanks to the connections and insights I gained during the Master, I secured an internship at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), followed by a role with Swatch during the Olympic Games, and eventually, I joined FIFA.
One of my dreams after completing the Master was to use sport as a tool for development. This aspiration led me to join FIFA’s Development Department, where I contributed to the analysis of best practices around the world, with the aim of highlighting the impact of FIFA’s development projects. Today, in my role at the FIFA Museum, I carry that same spirit forward. I’m passionate about connecting culture and football, and I strive to bring football history closer to countries and communities that may not have regular access to it. Through international events and initiatives, I aim to make the heritage of the game more inclusive, accessible, and inspiring.
What advice would you give to future students?
I’d probably say something Professor Piantoni once told us at SDA Bocconi. He encouraged our class to always keep our eyes open—to stay curious, never limit ourselves to just one path, and to keep exploring different interests. You never know—what starts as a side passion might one day turn into your full-time career!
